How to resize an image without stretching
Use Resize above the canvas to change pixel dimensions. Keep proportions enabled when the whole image needs to become smaller without changing its shape.
Resize a copy
- Open your image. On a narrow screen, use Search commands and search for Resize image; on desktop, choose Resize above the canvas.
- Leave Keep proportions checked. Enter a width or height; the other value updates automatically.
- Choose Apply resize. Check text and thin edges at 100% zoom. The resize applies to all layers, although some complex vectors may be skipped.
- Use Export for the finished image. If the result is stretched, undo and check the proportions before trying again.
Example: 2400 × 1600 to 1200 × 800
Reducing the width from 2400 to 1200 halves the image. The matching height is 1600 × (1200 ÷ 2400) = 800 pixels. Setting both sides to 1200 would change the shape from 3:2 to a square.
To try this without your own file, choose Open sample on the editor welcome screen. The sample is 1000 × 750 pixels: enter a width of 500 and the locked height becomes 375. Apply, then use Undo to return to the original size.
| Need | Operation |
|---|---|
| Same picture, fewer pixels | Resize with proportions locked. |
| Square crop from a wide photo | Crop the composition first, then resize. |
| Square image with the entire product visible | Use Canvas size and leave space around the product. |
If the result looks wrong
Enlarging does not recover missing detail. Start from the original rather than enlarging a small exported copy. If only one element needs resizing, select that layer and use its transform handles instead of resizing the whole document.
The resize dialog accepts up to 8192 pixels per side and 25 megapixels in total. A smaller setting may be necessary on a device with limited memory.
