How to add text to an image

Use T to add text on its own layer. The interface uses Inter; the Type Tool has a separate font selector for the text in your artwork.

Add and format a text layer

  1. Open the image, choose the Text tool or press T, and click on the canvas to enter your wording.
  2. Use the font dropdown to choose a family. Font library lets you preview the wording, browse 35 curated Google Fonts or load another family by name.
  3. Set size and color. Choose Done or press Ctrl / ⌘ Enter to finish typing, then drag the text with the Move tool (V). Double-click the text to edit it again; while typing, its frame edge can also be dragged.
  4. Save project downloads editable JSON. Export downloads a rendered image whose text is no longer a separate editable layer.

When a font does not look right

Design fonts download when selected and need a network connection. The dropdown can list a family before its download has completed. Wait for it to load before judging the spacing.

For Chinese text, try Noto Sans SC or Noto Serif SC. A Latin-only font cannot supply Chinese glyphs; the browser uses a fallback. To revise a project on another device, load the same family and inspect the layout again.

Check the image at its final size

A short line in a clear area usually reads better than a smaller paragraph over busy detail. Move the words, increase contrast or place a solid shape underneath. Keep that shape below the text layer.

If the words contain a product specification or other essential information, include them as normal text on the page where the image will be published. An exported picture alone does not make that wording selectable or accessible to a screen reader.
