Edit PSD files online with layers and local cutouts
Use PSD for supported layer exchange, adjustments for changes you can revise, and background removal for a first cutout that you can refine. Keep a JSON project for continued editing.
Read the PSD import report
Choose Import PSD or open a PSD. The report identifies supported layers and features that may change. Choose separate layers for editing or the merged preview when the saved composite appearance matters more.
| PSD content | What this editor uses |
|---|---|
| Common 8-bit RGB image layers | Separate pixels, positions, visibility, opacity and supported blend modes. |
| Imported text and smart objects | Their saved raster appearance; not the original editable text or smart-object structure. |
| Groups | Named layer paths rather than Photoshop group structure. |
| Advanced masks, effects or other color modes | May differ or be unsupported; compare with the original. |
Export and size limits
Import is limited to 100 MB, 8192 pixels per side, 16 megapixels, 200 layers and 32 nested groups. The combined decoded budget for layer rectangles, masks and composite is 80 megapixels. A file inside these limits can still exceed available device memory.
Export writes 8-bit RGB PSD. Uniform horizontal text can include editable text metadata; mixed styles and unsupported text effects become pixels, with a notice before export. JSON retains the editor’s editable data. Check the exported PSD in the receiving application before replacing your original.
Adjustments and manual masks
In Adjustments, add brightness/contrast, saturation or gamma. The adjustment affects visible layers below it. Double-click it to revise values; hide it or change opacity to compare.
For an image layer, choose Edit layer mask. Paint Hide or Restore, refine the edge and apply. The mask-editing preview is limited to 1024 pixels per side. JSON keeps the editable mask; PSD exports its resulting pixel appearance.
Remove a background, then inspect the edge
- Select an image layer and choose AI cutout. The object model downloads about 44 MB, or the portrait model about 26 MB, plus about 11 MB of runtime. Processing runs in your browser.
- After processing, adjust Contract / expand and Feather. Check hair, gaps, translucent objects and thin edges before applying.
- Apply creates a cutout layer and keeps the original hidden. Use the layer mask for areas the model missed, then export PNG or WebP with transparency.
- Cancel stops the worker. Source images are limited to 16 megapixels; speed depends on the device. A difficult edge may still need manual masking.
